Are there any divisions? For example Masters?
|
There is only one division: Amateur. No age or gender protected divisions are offered. You have to play in the MA1 PDGA division in a qualifier or have a high enough amateur Player Rating to be eligible to qualify. That means if you are a woman of "master's" age, you still have to play in the MA1 division of a qualifier or have a high enough player rating to qualify. Rule 804.08 of the PDGA rules of play states, "...Female players may compete in male divisions if they choose...". The reasoning behind this is.... "If you are good enough to be playing for the U.S. Amateur title, you are good enough to play in the toughest Amateur division to qualify" -Todd White 2002.

We try our best to get the qualifying tournaments determined as early as possible, but sometimes the sanctioning or even the existence of a tournament won't be known in time. If you would like to submit a tournament for consideration next year, please email office@amnationals.com with the details.

When can I submit my name to the waiting list?
|
There is no waiting list to get put on. If you do not qualify based on performance you will not be able to play in this tournament. There are no exemptions even for our title sponsor. We are doing this so that only the best players in the country will be playing for the title. Unlike other tournaments, our field has a HARD cap of 144 players due to the "tee time" format and X number of hours of daylight. We would love to accommodate every request, however it is just not logistically feasible. Each state is receiving up to 5 invites for players that have a high player rating, but could not make it to a qualifier for any number of reasons.

I qualified, but I still might not get in?
|
There is a possibility that even if you qualify, you may not get into the tournament. The reason is we have X number of qualifying events and we are going to invite the top 20% of the MA1 players in that event. Based on the number of entrants last year plus the 250 player rating invites, this yields approximately 550 invitations. Invitations will be sent out in groups based on the dates of the qualifying events, and when we receive the official Player Ratings - "Mid Year publication". What this boils down to is the sooner you qualify and return your application, the better your chance of getting into the tournament.

If someone has already qualified, do you take the next person in line?
|
Example: Player A qualifies early in the year and plays another qualifying tournament. If I am 1 spot below the 20% mark, will I be invited? The short answer is yes. If a player has already earned an invite, then the next best finishing spot will be invited to play. But beware, the early you qualify, the better. See above for more details.

3 ways to qualify for current PDGA Amateurs (subject to change):
Tournaments
Top 20% (unless otherwise noted) competitors in MA1 that have not already qualified.
Ratings
Top 5 Rated (at least 7 rated rounds, minimum 915 rating for MA1) amateur players from each U.S. State and some countries that have not already qualified. The ratings will be the current ratings as of March 23, 2010 (or when they are published there after, subject to change)
Week of Qualifying
5 spots have been reserved, along with any unfilled positions out of the 144 as of 6/4/10, for "Week of Qualifying". The tournament staff will allow players that have not already qualified to pay $20/round to try and shoot the "Hot Rounds". We will accept registrations (with the associated fee) from the players who shoot the hottest rounds during Tuesday thru Wednesday (6/8-6/9) prior to the event. Bring your caddy!
Each separate round will need to be paid for but there is no limit on the number of attempts you make. "Week of Qualifying" rules are subject to change without notice.

Tie for 1st place will be decided by sudden death elimination playoff for 3 holes. If one or more competitor is tied after 3 holes they will continue to play until a winner is decided. Holes to be used will be #1, #17, and #18.
Ties for other trophy positions will be decided by CTP
Ties for other "cashing" positions will have the value split between competitors
